A credit score is a number from 300 to 850 that represents your creditworthiness — how likely you are to repay what you borrow. In South Africa, higher is better: above 670 is generally good. You improve it by paying on time, keeping balances low, and managing existing accounts responsibly over time.

    Credit score ranges

    • Excellent: 800 – 850
    • Very good: 740 – 799
    • Good: 670 – 739
    • Fair: 580 – 669
    • Poor: 300 – 579

    Why your credit score matters

Lenders use your score, alongside an affordability check, to decide whether to approve credit. A stronger score can mean access to more options. eKasi Pay Credit checks both your credit record and your affordability before approving any short-term loan.

How to improve your credit score

    • Pay all loans and accounts on time, every time.
    • If you are in good standing, you may be able to increase your credit line responsibly.
    • Don't close an old credit card — show discipline and simply keep usage low.
    • Avoid applying for lots of new credit in a short space of time.
